Fabianski v Areola Semi Final
I see Martin Samuel has written an article demanding Moyes starts Fabianski over Areola in the semi.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10729609/MARTIN-SAMUEL-Pick-best-goalkeeper-games-really-matter.html

I was quite surprised to read this as I hadn’t even remotely considered Areola a weakness and actually think he suits European competition very well.

Do you any of you agree with Martin Samuel? For what it’s worth, in my opinion Areola has earned the right to be there and more than deserves his place in the team.

Nah, keepers don't move on that often. He won't be going anywhere.

Couldn't find a dedicated thread but surely we need to talk about him, he's been critical last few weeks, won't be surprised if a big club comes in this summer

Areola. He got us this far and deserves to go all the way.

I'd love to sign Areola permanently and he should clearly play in the semi.

Completely disagree with Samuel .
Areola has been very good in Europe so far .
An unwanted and unnecessary distraction.

Re: Fabianski v Areola Semi Final
I think Areola has played all games except the first away gleg in Zagreb. Two excellent keepers so tough choice but, as Charoo stated the save he pulled off against Sevilla was top quality. If that had gone in we probably wouldn't be talking about this now!

The other thing is that the outfield players need to be familiar with how the keeper plays and vice versa. This season because of cup runs and European games Areola has had good exposure.

In all my time of supporting WHU the keepers we have now are far the best pairing we’ve had.

The logic is that in ALL other positions there are consistent injuries and rotation. Also there are multiple position that players can play. Whereas in goal there is only one position in the team. So if you have two pretty equally matched goalies, one might not get a game the whole season, which is not good for either form or morale.

Of course it has to be Areola, Fab is playing alongside Dawson at the back.

Re: Fabianski v Areola Semi Final
I remember saying to my mate at the Sevilla game that Areola's save in the first half was the turning point in the whole tie, probably the most important save made by a West Ham 'keeper in years.

The question really is one that dosnt need asking.

Re: Fabianski v Areola Semi Final
I've never understood this tradition of using a different keeper for cup games. I don't get the logic, it's just weird.

As with every other position, just play the best player. If you have two keepers and you want them both to have experience in competetive games, just rotate them now and again. Or sub them mid game. Or choose the most appropriately skilled keeper for the opposition.

But as Areola has played every other game, he should carry on. No question.

Lots of upset here and abuse for Martin Samuel - seem to remember he’s a West Ham supporter though. Can’t be all bad!

The fat mess was obviously short of ideas for his latest article, and THIS is what he came up with? Fuck me, journalists are thick.

The only potential good reason for replacing Areola is if Moyes has decided definitely not to sign him for next season.

There is no way that Moyes will not have Areola in the starting line up vs EF. Lazy journalism, what is he trying to achieve with this? Twat.

Martin Samuel can get stuffed, who the hell does he think he is! Not only has Areola earnt it but Moyes should seriously consider him replacing Fabianski against Chelsea.
